SDP Honours Late Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu

The Benue state chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has today 21st June, 2021 in its bid to encourage good governance and integral development held her first public lecture in honour of the former executive Governor of Benue state, Late Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu with the Theme: Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu: A reflection of good governance and integral development.
The Public lecture which took place at Steam lounge, Old GRA in Makurdi has in attendance members of the social Democratic party in Benue, people across all works of life and members of other political parties in the state.
Speaking at the public lecture, the lead guest speaker, Hon. Terfa Kahaga Anjov (PhD) while dwelling on the topic: REV. FR. MOSES ORSHIO ADASU: A REFLECTION OF GOOD GOVERNANCE AND INTEGRAL DEVELOPMENT first quoted Chinua Achebe when he published his seminal work in 1983: THE TROUBLE WITH NIGERIA and declared that “The Nigerian problem is the unwillingness or inability of her leaders to rise to the responsibility and to the challenge of personal example which he said were the hall marks of true leadership”.
According to Dr. Anjov, everyone who read the eminent African novelist would agree that the publication by Achebe was the best to be used in analysing a reputable “ICON” in the person of very Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu.
Speaking further, he said that those who are interested in leaving legacies for prosperity like Adasu did must be encouraged by the words of Lucius Annaeus and Martin Luther King Jr, When they said that: “Not how long, but how well you have lived is the main thing” and “It does not matter how long you live, but how well you do it.” He emphasized that Adasu who had just a short stint on the corridor of power as the executive Governor of Benue state believed in what he could do with his time.
Also speaking on governance, Dr. Anjov said good governance was an act of decision-making that is essentially free of abuse, free of corruption and respect the rule of law, wherein he concludes that good governance is an attitude as the decisions and choices are based on rational thoughts.
Dr. Anjov therefore mentioned:Transparency, Accountability, Gender equality and public participation as the critical elements for the attainment of good governance anywhere in the world.
Also speaking on development: Dr. Anjov explained that the word development is multi- faceted.
Therefore he quoted Claude Ake when he defined development as the process by which people create and recreate themselves and their life circumstances to realize higher level of civilization in accordance with their choice and values.
Dr. Anjov insist that good governance is about decision-making with positive impacts on the electorates
According to him, Rev. Fr. Adasu throughout his political carrier did nothing to modify principles in favour of money. But to some political, traditional and religious rulers, money is their topmost priority.
Dr. Anjov posited that he would not address such persons as leaders but as rulers because they do not posses the qualities of true leaders. He said the crop of rulers who had found their way through vote-rigging can sell a whole nation for money.
Dr. Anjov, however, left his audience with few questions:
1.Do you think that your desires would be met with the present leadership at the state and federal levels ?
2.As a child of God, where do you find God in your life?
He concluded that it is a belief among Africans that the dead are still living and described late Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu who saw education as an engine of growth and believed education was critical to integral development of any society that does not want to remain the same as a LIVING DEAD.
Dr. Anjov, a renowned doctor of philosophy also suggested that what is left to be done is to do away with money politics.
Also speaking at the public lecture, Terna Sam – Kange described Late Rev.Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu as a fluid in the electoral system and stressed that leadership recruitment in Benue is faulty and there was every need to correct the fault in 2023.
The State Chairman of the SDP in Benue, Dr. John Enemari , reacting earlier, thanked everyone who came to be part of the public lecture organized in honour of Late Rev. Fr. Adasu and promised party faithfuls, well wishers and those who came to witness the lecture from other political parties that the party was poised to emulate Late Rev. Fr.
